Exegesis

This page has been created as part of the requirements for Web 101 through Curtin University.

I have undertaken study of Web 2.0 tools and ideas over the last few months and these pages represent the culmination of my learning. I have created this blog and the linked nodes of Twitter, Google plus and Delicious accounts to show the world who I am as a digital individual.

The Central Node - this blog - describes my interests and hobbies with posts that include the birth of my son, my families quest to sell to cars that are now no longer required and a review of one of the books that I've read during my time on parental leave. Reading is a true joy and I enjoy helping my seven year old daughter to learn and improve her skills - my own reading has suffered somewhat due to time constraints and other more important responsibilities. I had hoped to have finished more books but our son arrived early - and I am now significantly short of time. Not that I'm complaining.

I have provided links to three other nodes all of which link back to this central point and are all Web 2.0 tools. I have also included access to two lists created on web sites where books (and other goods) can be purchased - should anyone reading my blog feel generous enough to make a donation to my personal library.

The Web 2.0 nodes chosen have been done so deliberately. I feel that in conjunction with a blog a user must have a profile page on a social networking site that enables them to interact with strangers in some way. Google Plus (Google+) provides this option. Having a publicly available profile and uploading a few choice posts will direct traffic through to this blog. Twitter is much the same although Twitter also enables more interaction with people on an immediate time-frame. People can respond instantly. I can foresee a trip to the book store resulting in a purchase through an online pole conducted via a smart phone. A Delicious account provides a way to save links to pages to refer to later and this is especially important  when uploading content - I can tag my own pages to tie them all together.

I had thought about activating the option within Blogspot to advertise but I do not feel that there is enough content at this point to warrant trying to sell an opinion that is not exactly 'lighting up the switchboard' so to speak. This may come in time when I have both finished more reviews and have a few followers.

The colour choices for this central node and the linked nodes that have template options were deliberate. I prefer a dark background with white writing and feel the mood evokes a certain authority. It also allows the images I have uploaded to stand out as does highlighting the book titles in my reviews in red. All images are owned by myself.

I believe that owing to the process of starting, composing and editing these sites that I have gained valuable insight into what might be required in a corporate setting where a company would like to increase it's digital footprint to include Web 2.0 tools or more specifically Enterprise 2.0. I also feel that even once this topic is complete and there is no specific requirement I will continue to blog and link via the selected methods.
